What is the Medicare Advantage Annual Enrollment Period?
The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period begins on October 15 and ends December 7th of each year. During this period, anyone who is enrolled in Medicare may enroll for the first time in a Medicare Advantage Plan; or change from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another; or return to Original Medicare from a Medicare Advantage Plan.
Suppose during this period you enroll in an Arizona Medicare Advantage Plan that includes Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage. In that case, any prior Medicare Part D Plan coverage is automatically cancelled and replaced by the new Advantage Plan with prescription drug coverage. These plans are known as MA-PD plans (Advantage-Part D plans).
Next Steps . . .
The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) occurs from October 15 through December 7 each year. During this time, you can make changes to your Medicare health or drug plans. These changes include switching, adding, or dropping plans. Any adjustments made during the annual enrollment period take effect on January 1 of the following year. If you have any specific questions about Medicare enrollment, feel free to ask!
