Medicare allows private companies to offer prescription drug insurance to Medicare beneficiaries. It is available to all eligible Medicare recipients, regardless of income, resources, health status, or current prescription expenses. Premiums for the plans vary by state, so it is important to choose an Arizona Part D plan for those living in Arizona. Medicare prescription drug coverage helps protect against high drug costs.
To join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP), you must have Medicare Part A or Part B. To join a Medicare Advantage Plan that includes prescription drug coverage (MAPD), you must have Medicare Part A and Part B, live in the service area of the Medicare drug plan you want to join, and be a U.S. citizen or lawfully present in the United States. Individuals with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) who are in Original Medicare can join a PDP, but generally cannot join a Medicare Advantage Plan unless they qualify for an exception.
